Golf on the Costa Dorada

After last weeks look at the best South Africa has to offer, this week’s edition of the travel blog will take a look the Costa Dorada.

Accessible by Reus Airport one and a half hours south of Barcelona, the Costa Dorada has 11 golf courses that are all located within a 45 minute drive from Tarragona. With average temperatures that range from 8°C in February to 28°C in July and August decent golf conditions are almost a given throughout the year.

Each course offers a different experience with a variety of backdrops and designs. The Lakes Course is surrounded by nature around the stunning wetlands, whilst the Hills Course showcases the area’s pine groves and quarries. A 9 hole Ruins Course runs between a second-century archaeological site to which the course owes its name.

Club de Golf Bonmont Terres Noves

Also known as Bonmont Resort Costa Dorada Hotel Golf & Spa this course features numerous natural and man-made hazards. These include imposing gullies, six lakes carved out of the rock, bridges, copses, more than 90 bunkers and ample, beautifully manicured greens. There is also a natural grass driving range.

Each hole holding its own particular challenges and out of bounds never far away, the layout of the course provides a stern test of shot-making for the golfer. A real challenge, artfully created by Robert Trent Jones Jr. for the enjoyment of those at Bonmont.
