Ring of Kerry a hidden gem

Once upon a time, there was a magic kingdom, that the Gods declared as the natural habit for Golfing Nirvana! Amongst some of the better known golfing destinations is a little hidden gem called the “Ring of Kerry Golf Club”. The picture perfect location provides a stunning backdrop that would not look out of place in a Lord of the Rings scene.

Alan Bevan, from the Ring of Kerry golf club introduces us to this corner of the Kingdom

“Ideally positioned on the rugged coastline of the famous Iveragh Peninsula and overlooking the stunning panoramic vista of Kenmare bay and the Caha Mountains, the Ring of Kerry Golf Club is a unique heathland course that is a rarity in Ireland.

Founded in 1998 and designed by Ireland’s renowned golfing architect Eddie Hackett, the course provides an idyllic natural landscaped setting offering a mix of undulating fairways, meandering brooks and large borrowing greens. This is golf as it was meant to be and offers a true test to all levels of golfing ability.

A prime example is the breathtaking 342 yard, 6th Hole. From an elevated tee box boasting a panoramic view of Kenmare Bay, it is a sweeping bunker lined par-4 dog-leg, with a large lake to the right and out of bounds to the left, it is imperative that your tee shot is hit accurately so as to set up the best angle of approach for your second shot to a perilously narrow target – par is a great score, holing for birdie could not be more satisfying! The 6th is an excellent challenge of golfing skill, although it is the overall quality of all 18 holes that combine to define a truly exceptional round of golf.

A visit to the Ring of Kerry golf club offers an experience more than just a game of golf, with the renowned Irish hospitality and local knowledge and passion for the game, you will be in good golfing company. The fabulous bar & restaurant facility is amongst the finest in the country, in where one can comfortably enjoy tales of success or simply relax and muse over the putts that slipped by.

With two airports located just either side of an hours drive away, travelling to this spectacular and tranquil corner of Ireland could not be easier. The beautiful heritage town of Kenmare, with its many famous and award winning restaurants, bars and accommodation, is a mere 5 minute drive away and serves as the perfect base for any golfing holiday.

Graced by its location, in surroundings of outstanding natural beauty, it is the clubs continued pursuit of excellence that ensures this gem of a course is a must visit for all golfers.”
